Introduction to Security. Learners will be able to perform basic tasks to secure network routers and switches using with Cisco IOS features available through the command line interface and web-based GUIs.

Prerequisites

Learners considered for this training will have demonstrated competencies (knowledge, skills and attitudes) as covered in the ICND course or equivalent to the following:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification
  • Working knowledge of the Windows operating system
  • Working knowledge of Cisco IOS networking and concepts

What you will learn

Learners will be able to perform basic tasks to secure network routers and switches using with Cisco IOS features available through the command line interface and web-based GUIs.

Course content

Introduction to Network Security Policies
  • The goal of this module is to develop a comprehensive network security policy to counter threats against information security. The threat will be described, the process of developing a security policy presented and practiced, and Cisco’s Self-Defending Network (SDN) strategy introduced.
Securing the Perimeter
  • The goal of this module is to configure routers on the network perimeter with Cisco IOS software security features. It will focus on protecting access to network routers and disabling unused protocols, ports and services.
Securing the LAN Devices
  • The goal of this module is to configure LAN devices to control access, resist attacks, shield other network devices and systems, and protect the integrity and confidentiality of network traffic
Configuring a Cisco IOS Firewall
  • The goal of this module to configure Cisco IOS Firewall features to perform basic security operations on a network using the SDM GUI
Securing Networks with Cisco IOS IPS
  • The goal of this module is to configure IPS on Cisco network routers
Building IPSec VPNs
  • The goal of this module is to configure point-to-point and remote access VPNs using Cisco IOS features
